What are the different types of resistance bands? (3 Different Types)

In this article today we will discuss the different types of resistance bands in India. Resistance bands usually come in 3 different types, namely resistance bands, resistance tubes, and hip bands. All these three serve different purposes although they are made from the same material which is rubber however they differ in both resistance as well as quality. Let's take a look at all of them and discuss their use cases!

RESISTANCE BANDS

These are long loop resistance bands usually coming in 42 inches length and used for a variety of different things such as mobility drills, pull-up assist as well as a full workout. These bands come in as low as 3 kgs resistance and go all the way up to 70 kgs resistance or even higher with some particular resistance bands. Since there are many use cases with these bands, the need for having low and high resistance also arises as not all movements can be performed with the same resistance.

These bands are usually made from solid rubber as well as natural rubber which is latex, there are companies that are offering cheaper resistance bands but those are made form synthetic rubber which is TPE and not durable at all. If you want to read more about how to choose a resistance band, you can read our resistance band buying guide.

These bands also sell the most because of their versatility, there is no limit to how much you can do with them, it's only up to your imagination. They also serve the purpose of resistance tubes which were mainly designed for workouts, although resistance bands are much better than tubes in that regard, if you want to know why then you can read our article we wrote on resistance bands vs resistance tubes but for now let's talk about resistance tubes!

RESISTANCE TUBES

These don't have a loop design like resistance bands, but instead an open-end design with carabiner hooks to attach various kinds of handles and grips. Resistance tubes were mainly designed as resistance bands were hard to grip and felt harsh on hands especially as the resistance increased, so with these, you can attach handles at the end of the tubes so that you don't have to grip the rubber directly. If you look at it from another angle then these tubes also work how handles on a cable pulley machine feel like.

However, I don't think this is an advantage for resistance tubes as you can attach the same handles to regular loop resistance bands as well at both ends. All you have to do is buy some extra carabiners, attach them to both ends of the resistance bands and there you have the same usability.

On top of that, resistance tubes are made from hollow rubber, and synthetic rubber as well in many cases and overall aren't a good value for money, they cost less as compared to resistance bands but that doesn't mean they are a better value for money. I wouldn't recommend resistance tubes to most people.

HIP BANDS

I don't personally own these types of resistance bands but basically how these work is that you put them around or below your hip to do various movements such as squats and deadlifts. You would rarely see men using these bands as they are primarily made and targeted towards women who usually care about the growth of their hips and lower body. These bands help you activate certain muscles in your lower body that cannot be targeted otherwise, although I am not sure how much truth there is in that statement.

These also come in various different resistances from high to low, although they don't go as low as 42-inch loop resistance bands as the main use case of this is targetted towards the lower which most people are relatively stronger at as compared to the upper body. I have seen coaches use them for certain mobility drills and they can be useful when in the hands of a trained professional although I'm unsure how useful these are to the general audience.
